Enhanced mobile tickets that use rotating barcodes and NFC technology to reduce the risk of fraud are being introduced at Optus Stadium, starting with this weekend’s Ed Sheeran shows. As a result, screenshotted tickets will no longer be accepted.

Ticketmaster’s mobile ticketing technology has been used successfully at major stadiums and events globally for a number of years. The barcode on each ticket will refresh every 15 seconds, which prevents resellers from exploiting screenshots or photocopies of tickets to sell them multiple times.

Fans are strongly encouraged to download tickets prior to arrival at the Stadium and add them to their mobile wallet. People who have purchased tickets for other patrons will still be able to transfer them to someone else, but both parties will need to use a Ticketmaster account rather than share screenshots.

Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said the new ticketing system continued the venue’s focus on putting fans first.

“Ticketmaster created this product to reduce the risk of ticket fraud and ensure fans have the best ticketing experience possible,” Mr McKenna said.

“We are working with Ticketmaster and our key hirers to help educate fans on how to make the change, in line with other stadia, including comprehensive pre-event communications and signage and additional support at entry gates.

“As fans become accustomed to the new processes, we encourage patrons to arrive a bit earlier than usual to enter the stadium.

“Downloading tickets to your device’s wallet in advance is the best way to ensure a smooth entry.”
